Collaboration between Darren and Matthew
Important:
The entire process should be collaborative and the work from each role will need feedback from the whole team. For example, if sound could be improved, then someone in the non-sound role can offer suggestions.
All ideas should be taken into consideration when directing, lighting, recording etc. Our team should work together to help improve our film and each other's skills.
What is my role within Heart Chocolate?
I'd like to be director and cinematographer on our project. The hot chocolate idea was one I came up with early on and have put some thought and effort into the development of it. I have a keen idea for the visual style and the tone of the film. As colourist, I'd like to communicate a style of warmth and coziness in the edit.
As Producer, I have also put work into the planning of the production for Heart Chocolate.
I have created a Plan of Action which details the steps we need to take to produce the film and when we should do them by.
It is also my job to carry out a risk assessment and plan how we will use the location. A list of the equipment we need and the booking status will be kept track of by myself. We will share the responsibility of booking out different items.
I will also try to keep us on track, on task and on time. The Plan of Action is important as it breaks down the tasks into a week by week schedule. I have sent this to Matt who approves. If we find ourselves behind schedule, then I will arrange the team to meet to catch up.
Matthew said he would like to be the editor on our film. I want to give him freedom to explore how he could cut the footage - I look forward to working with him to deliver the online edit in a collaborative process.
I will work closely with the editor to help with the colour grading of the film. I feel like I have the most experience as an editor, but that doesn't necessarily mean I am the best fit for it.
I have also asked Matt to identify the sounds we need to record, once I have written the script and shot list. I don't want him to feel like I am taking over the project and therefore I am asking fairly regularly for his ideas and feedback.
Matt and I will share a lot of the process together, each providing feedback. While we may have a shot list to work through, I beleive we may differentiate when we get on location. Ideas develop, certain equipment may not be available, or we just feel like experimenting with something creatively.
