THE TROVE
Being able to recreate a night-time look during the day is very useful. It is easier to film subjects, to navigate the location and requires less lighting equipment (if any).
However, for best results you should plan the day to work with the sunlight. Think about how the subject will be lit and whether you will have enough contrast to achieve the look effectively.
A very interesting how-to guide, using Davinci Resolve too (yay)
A quick experiment in Bute Park, Cardiff. Compare the pre-grade daytime footage to post.
This is a test of the day for night effect. A shot like this could be used in my Visual Production assignments.
The footage was filmed handheld, using Sony a6000. It was not shot specifically for DFN, but proved useful in experimenting here. The sky was easy to darken, and the tree cover provided shade for the highlights from the Sun.
Improvements could be made by emphasising the highlights to imply a strong full moon. Saturate the blue to create a vivid, stylised look.
