TASK 3
TASK 3
CREATIVE ANALYSIS AND DEVELOPMENT
October 2024
The purpose of our tasks in week 3 were to help us create using our influences and with the truth of how we experience the world.
See lecture slides.
Write what you know. Write your truth, with a quality that evokes emotion, to create empathy between your audience and your characters.
"The best advice (for writers) is to not to write what you know, it's to write what you like."
- Austin Kleon
What is the nature of love? Love exists in various forms. It can be personal, private or observed.
Without feeling love, we would be lonely. The world would lack deep connections, empathy and kindness.
A society without love would be anarchy. That is no society at all.
When love is introduced into a scenario it can be beautiful - or heartbreaking. Love is important to us all, but how we experience it and how we respond to it can cause outcomes we might not be prepared for. The anxiety of feeling loved.
Love can lead to hard disagreements and hard decisions. It can be painful to argue with someone you share a deep connection to. It can be heartbreaking to lose those connections.
But likewise, love can be pure and intimate. It is a quality we all must feel, share and give to others.
Poetic - Ironic - Impossible
Love may be seperated by space or time. I consider myself quite and open person about my feelings and emotions, even if I censor them myself for some people. Some may hide their feelings because of love.
How has love been seen, felt and observed?
A first crush on someone at school
A first kiss at a friends house, giving into their senses
Feeling the pride when a friend achieves something incredible,
Colleagues showing their feelings on a last day at work
Being overwhelmed seeing the care and effort a friend has put into making something for them (at a gathering)
Observing the love between a mother and her child while playing, either at home or in a park etc
A resiliant friendship and forgiveness, even after being hated
Being embraced by a parent in the lounge
Love and it's counterparts are why I am here today and a part of who I am as a person. The people I have met, the friends I have made and the connections I have both gained and let fade are a unique influence on me. No one person experiences love the same way as another, whether that is platonically or romantically.
It is the love I have experienced throughout my life that has put me on the path I am on today.
"Writers should write... to make the audience believe"
Using the mindmap about love (above), taking three elements that stand out to me and applying lateral thinking to discover new concepts.
music, add music ideas to the mm on procreate, update and uplaod here
In the aim of Brian Eno, create something that does not yet exist, but that you would like to see.
What film would you like to watch, that doesn't yet exist - and may never exist because it would be too eclectic?
But remember the following:
"Love is shown more in deeds than words."
- St Ignatius
How can I merge the quote by St Ignatius with my favourite tropes? The film should convey love through action not speech. A character can say the words "I love you" but wouldn't that be too easy.
Influenced by how things make me feel.
Not a synopsis:
A time-travel, end of the world epic, where the pressing need to save the earth is rooted in the love two characters share. She wasn't trying to save the world, she was saving her.
A story that can exist beyond the script it is written within, that people can create more for and allow it to continue both officially and unofficially.
Maybe I don’t yet have a broad enough M.E. list to create something too eclectic...? Time to add some more to it!
Next up: Character Profiles.
