HEART CHOCOLATE
HEART CHOCOLATE
VISUAL PRODUCTION
Note
A premise is important in understanding the core idea of the film. It helps break down the story into a few sentences that leaves a question to be answered. It might give a clue to the theme and genre of the film.
After delivering the first script to Matt, I decided to change up the idea a little bit. Matt's feedback suggested the film may be too long and some parts were un-necessary. Moving a way from a character-centric film allows us to focus on filming the process.
How would we showcase the process?
By making the hot chocolate itself the center of the story, we can focus on the craft. The element of perfection and luxury.
Paul's feedback when disccusing lighting included looking at advertising and how colour is used there. This pushed me towards being a bit more abstract and experimental with our idea. Utilising some of the original concept, but with an emphasis on filming the hot chocolate in a way that entices the audience to buy / drink one. An advert for hot chocolate is a great way to show this.

Reasoning What is the message or the purpose?
Our short film will explore the creation of the perfect hot chocolate. Our character is putting in their best effort to carefully craft a luxourious chocolate with consideration to how ingredients are cooked and how it shoud be presented.
But doing so can cause anxiety and tension - achieving perfection can be nerve-wracking. These themes should also be explored in the film. We might incorporate hints that the character has failed at previous attempts before and has determination to get it right. However, we are limited to a few minutes of script. Feedback on my first draft of the script meant I decided to scrap a lot of the fictionalisation.
We will shoot this in the style of a promotional piece, with a focus on the specifics of process. Our set should be designed with props such as recipe books and ingredients.
The film should make our audience crave a hot chocolate!
People with wealth want perfection - the best, luxurious food and drink. To acheive perfection, you need determination, education and resilience.
Creating a premise for our story will help us keep on track and able to tell our intended story on screen.
